Can I switch to another LPG supplier?
A domestic customer of Bulk LPG (Propane) with a bulk LPG tank (Above Ground or Below Ground) can, from 13th April 2009 switch to another LPG supplier without the need to exchange or uplift your Bulk LPG Tank. The ownership of the tank will simply transfer to the new Bulk LPG supplier, which makes the switch process easy and quicker for both you and the new Bulk LPG Tank supplier.

When can my Bulk LPG supplier be switched?
A Home Bulk Tank LPG Supply Agreement is for 2 years only.

If you are outside of your 2-year Supply Agreement or you are within 14 days of the end of the agreement, you can start the switch process.
  • Important: You do not have to give supplier 42 days notice. The new supplier will do everything for you.
  • New Owners: If you are new to the property. There is no contract and you are free to select a Home Bulk Tank LPG Supplier. If you are selling your property, or if you are a tenant and you leave the property, the Supply Agreement will immediately terminate.

What is the cost to switch to another Bulk LPG supplier?
There is no cost to switch to a new Bulk LPG supplier, it is completely FREE.

Will my LPG supply be interrupted?
During the switch process your Bulk LPG supply will not be interrupted. As your tank is not being exchanged you will have continuity of your supply. Your existing supplier is obligated to provide you with fuel right up until the tank ownership and switch process has completed and your new supplier takes over.

What does Telemetry do?
Telemetry: This device can be fitted to your Bulk LPG tank a switch is completed. Telemetry allows you and your LPG provider to see ‘remotely’ how much gas is in the Tank. This helps determine when a delivery is needed.

Automatic Top-up?
If you wish to do so, you can select to be on ‘Top-up’. This means that when your tank reaches an agreed safety level, normally 25-30%, a delivery will be dispatched to you automatically, ensuring that you don't run out of LPG!
Payment Options?
There are various payment options. You can what is just best for you. Budget DD; where you spread the cost of your gas over 12 months or Variable DD where the full amount owed is taken by DD, Credit or Debit Card, Cheque or BACS.

Tank Rental / Standing Charges?
The typical tank rental is between £60pa and £80pa for an ‘Above Ground’ Bulk LPG Tank and between £90pa and £130pa for a ‘Below Ground’ Bulk LPG Tank.

Once you have switched, you pay the a tank rental to the new supplier as they will now own the Bulk LPG tank.

Who will deal with the switch paperwork?
When you decide to switch to a new Bulk LPG supplier then ‘LPG Compare UK’ and the new Bulk LPG supplier takes care of all the paperwork. They will put the existing supplier on notice and organise a payments and deliveries into place on a plan that best suits you. 

Tank Compliance for Bulk LPG
Bulk LPG tanks with a capacity of 1200 or 2200 litres must be located at least 3m from properties or boundaries and other fixed sources of ignition. A fire wall of solid construction may be present along one or two sides of the Bulk LPG tank with a minimum separation distance of 1.5m. Please ensure that the area around your tank is free of all debris and overgrown vegetation and that a line of sight is maintained between the Tank and the tanker to ensure the safe delivery of LPG to your property.

Bulk LPG Tank deliveries are made by way of a mini bulker with a width of 2.6m (8’6”), requiring a minimum gateway width of 2.75m and a minimum access road width of 3.0m. Bulk LPG tanks must not be sited directly beneath electric power cables and where the voltage is below 1kV. The Bulk LPG tank must be sited 1.5 metres from a plane drawn vertically downwards from the power cable. For cables operating at a voltage of 1.0kV or greater the distance should be increased to 10 metres.

There are many independent suppliers across the UK. The suppliers that supply the majority of the Bulk LPG are;
